The Civil engineering department was established in the year of 2008 with intake of 60 students + 20% of intake through lateral entry. The intake was increased to 120 in the academic year 2010-2011+ 20% intake through lateral entry students. Academic year of 2013-2024 intakes was increased up to 180 + 20% intake through lateral entry students.

History
The Civil department of Annai Polytechnic College to be established in the year of 2008 by the K.K.O. Mohamed Ibrahim Education & Charitable Trust Which is located at kovilacheri, Kumbakonam. It is started with the noble aim to provide quality education for rural and economically poor background students in this society. This civil department enjoys the privileged status approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) Tamil Nadu and also by the educationalists and administrators of this institute. The Civil department comprises highly dedicated and professionally trained staff. They all work towards the objectives of educating and imparting not only the technical (civil) skills but also the life skills including disciplines and ethical skills. It prepares the students to face the real-life challenges and moulds the students for their well-being and adjusting to life methodologies of the other sections of student community (of non-agricultural background) as demanded by the society at large.
